“At large” is an apt descriptive based on the Online Entymology Dictionary:
- large
- large “broad, wide,” from L. largus “abundant, copious, plentiful, liberal,” of unknown origin. Main modern meaning “extensive, big” emerged c.1300. An older sense of “liberated, free” is preserved in at large (1399). Adj. phrase larger-than-life first attested 1937 (bigger than life is from 1641).

- trustee and past-president (for the term 2011-2012) of the International Society for the Systems Sciences; formerly with posts as vice-president of research and publications (2007-2010), vice-president of communications and systems education (2003-2007), and chair of the Special Integration Group on Systems Applications in Business and Industry (2002-2010);
- retiree after 28 years of service with IBM Canada Ltd., include roles of business architect and marketing scientist, writing on questions at the intersection of business organizations and technologies on coevolving.com;
- ambassador to the International Society for Service Innovation Professionals (ISSIP);
- itinerant scholar at Aalto School of Science and Technology (formerly the Helsinki University of Technology, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management);
- research fellow, University of Hull Centre for Systems Studies;
- visiting scholar, Tokyo Institute of Technology;
- co-founder of the Systems Community of Inquiry; and
- formerly, a senior researcher on the Rendez research project, and lecturer at the Metropolia (nee Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia).
I’ve had the distinction of being profiled on Wikipedia.
