2007/03/29 Sculptures across 57th Street, NYC

On my way back to Toronto from Houston, I had a stopover in New York for a client meeting. I went into the office at 590 Madison Avenue, which is at the corner of 57th Street. The lower floors of the office tower look over an enclosed atrium.

Down in the atrium, some decorated apples are prominent. (Was this a variation on “Cows on Parade” in Chicago?)

Not all of the art is quite so lively. If modernism wasn’t sufficiently evident, this month’s installation reinforced it. Fortunately, the art is in rotation at 590 Madison.

Outside, it was a warm spring day, and I walked west on 57th Street in shirtsleeves. At 9 West 57th Street, they really want to make sure that you know where you are.

Further along, is Carnegie Hall. Since I’m not a classical music afficianado, I’m not likely to go to this venue.

My day job seems to be turning largely bicoastal, so although I will get assigned to projects elsewhere across the United States, I won’t be surprised to spending more time in Los Angeles and New York City.
